Do you want to visit a real Roman city? I mean, as it was in Ancient Rome?
It was founded in the 3rd Century B.C. and unlike Pompeii, which died in a tragic way, Ostia quietly expired as the Empire declined and was slowly covered with the mud of the Tiber. In fact it was a very important naval base and Rome’s center of trade.
That’s way it is now, more or less, like a ghost town where everything is more or less intact: houses and apartment blocks, warehouse, bars, “shopping centers” and of course, baths, temples, theaters….
Enjoy these images and come to Ostia
